The Walking

The Walking

The Walking

Oils on masonite 15 ½” x 24 ½”

This is a cover done for a collection of Dark Fantasy and Horror by James Dorr, published by Dark Regions Books. It was my first project after returning from the 2004 L. Ron Hubbard’s Illustrator of the future awards ceremony in Hollywood California. While in one of the workshops, I met a great Sci-Fi, Fantasy illustrator, Stephen Hickman, and was inspired and encouraged by him. This painting is a product of that inspiration.

This Instance of Me

Oils on masonite 14” x 22”

This painting is for a duel-book published by Yard Dog Press, the first in its series called “Double Dog Books”. This book is a spin-off of the old “Double Day Books” of a few decades past. For this cover I couldn’t resist doing a classic hero and heroin pose with them blasting away against a backdrop of a ghostly infinite space.

Strong Brown Gods

Strong Brown Gods

Oils on masonite 8” x 24”

This is a wrap-around cover painting done for a Chap book that is currently in limbo status. In this story the ancient Gods of many cultures come back in monolithic form and all the world is made to suffer.

Honor Bound

Oils on masonite 12” x 16”

This cover was done for a Chap book written by Lizette Gifford and published by Yard Dog Press. I gave the main character, Britta, a heavy slant to her right eye to give her a cat-like gaze. It conveyed or implied a huntress ability to administer consequences to those who may cross her path.

Dragon Sentry

Dragon Sentry

Dragon Sentry

16" X 20"

Pillars of living rock thrust skywards making silhouettes like giants against the dawning sky. The sound of wings slapping against the brittle morning air like the canvas on a great ship; The dragon takes curious notice of a small creature bounding away to safety as it swoops in to land. The Dragon Sentry has arrived, to investigate what new trouble may have come, and to deal with it swiftly; to welcome as a friend or to destroy as an enemy is in the hands of the Dragon Sentry…

Ye Olde Apothecary

Acrylics and Oils on Masonite 18" x 24"

Bent and stooped from long hours of toiling over his cauldron, and surrounded by the elements of his trade the aged and learned apothecary mixes and boils his tisanes and potions for every need and want.

Giant's Apprentice

Giant's Apprentice

Giant's Apprentice

Oil on Canvas, 24" x 30"

I developed the concept for this painting with the desire to create a piece that evoked the sense of magic and wonder that is so prevalent in a young boys life. There are Magicians Apprentices o-plenty. But a Giant's Apprentice…

Lost Canyon

Acrylic and Oil on Canvas, 18" x 24"

Sticks and stones may break my bones, but big angry reptiles will definitely hurt me.

Never Look Back

Never Look Back

Oils on Canvas Board, 18" x 24"

Never look back, that's when your demons get you, or attempt to at the very least.

Hole In The Wall

Acrylic on Masonite, 14" x 18"

It was a happy little home with love all around, but then came this scraping… clawing…snapping sound.

Drifter

Oil on Canvas Paper, 12" x 16"

A new city, a new adventure, a new hope.

Gargoyle Motif

Oil on Canvas, 20" x 24"

One of a series of six gargoyle pieces done for my design class at SLCC. This "multiple" piece I did as a montage. A style that is very free and open, and lots of fun in the process.

Acrylic on Masonite, 13" x 18"

Another of my gargoyle pieces. What an appropriate perch for a tired and weary traveler.

Gargoyle Tower

Brush and Ink on Watercolor Paper,11" x 15"

A third piece for my gargoyle series. Leaden skies and a tense, heavy feeling in the air. It is nearly midnight and the bell tower will soon be sending out its mournful wail.

Dragon Ship

Oil on Canvas, 18" x 36"

Lost on a storm tossed sea, the ship is being guided through these troublesome waters by a kindly, good Sea Dragon. Though the lone sailor is besieged by demons, serpents and sirens, he is determined to see the journey through to its end.
